Dice – Then & Now

Northwest HipHop up-&-comer Dice, (Born Tawnya Leilani Cunningham) has always been surrounded by music. Her mother’s participation in the “Sweet Adeline’s” all women barbershop chorus (her mothers boyfriend a guitar-maker for Ernie Ball, & member of a band himself), was a huge inspiration & influence on the future singer from the very beginning. Speakers, sound boards and guitars were on every wall. Choir and other musical studies were a given even in the very early years of her life.  It was during these years Dice was introduced to HipHop/Rap (late nights sneaking a listen to the local radio station while her mom slept). In 1998, at age 11, Dice’s mother moved them to Yelm, WA: a small town near the state capitol of Olympia with lots of livestock and little going on. Culture shock was an understatement! Nonetheless, it was here Dice would blossom as an artist; penning her first rhyme book in 2004, & making many valuable connections that laid the groundwork for what would later become milestones in her career. One of these milestones occurred in 2007 when Dice, freshly 18, signed with an independent label in Oakland, California.
