Sam Lachow – Avenue Music EP

Sam LaChow’s “Brand New Bike” was a great introduction for him as a solo artist. It really showed his ability to make good natured music that gratifies not only the local Seattle youth. Avenue Music was the follow up to “Brand New Bike” and it was the EP that really got his buzz going outside the region. Collaborations galore the song “Liquor Store” has become a favorite among many. Also a good note of Gifted Gab getting love on here before her buzz really started. Produced by Sam and Maggie brown it is another in the many projects we will see from Sam in the future.

UGLYFRANK – Bobby Hill EP

ILLFIGHTYOU really came onto the scene with some praise and their music is worthy. It is good to see a Tacoma group with a good online presence and also doing very well with the legwork part of the game as well. UGLYFRANK is part of the trio and what most probably expected next was a follow up project. Instead we get “Bobby Hill” a EP of seven songs which really let’s UGLYFRANK shine. The production is handled by Kream Team which gives the project an artist to producer consistency which is easily heard.

Q.Z. Tha Leader – Moment Of Genius Opus: Part 1

Just under a year ago, the southern producer and wordsmith, Q.Z., left his hometown in search of inspiration in the Pacific Northwest. He reestablished his idiosyncratic storytelling and lyricism in the great city of Portland, Oregon, which he now calls home. With the most artistic freedom he’s ever had on any other project, Q.Z. finally pulls back the shades and opens up his life to the world. His new artistic hub, coupled with his eccentric vision, helped shape and mold the sound for Q.Z.’s new opus. “Moment of Genius Opus: Part 1” is Q.Z.’s 3rd solo project and it is available now for free on Bandcamp.com and Soundcloud.com. The project is executive produced by CoDa and features a leading single, “Monte’ Carlo,” which has an accompanying video that debuted on YouTube. A new path is being paved with the release of this EP, which looks to reclaim the essence of true artistry and music.

Shaprece is back! Always liked her on guest appearances and she also dropped a short EP a few years back called “Scatterbrain”. Since then it has been promise of a album but it still has yet to arrive. In the meantime Shaprece has hooked up with Noisetrade to release the “Molting EP”. It is only six songs but should give you a direction of what Shaprece is heading towards sound wise in the future. She does a great job of being able to mix soul into a electronic R&B sound. No features besides a Blue Sky Black Death Remix on the last track.

Royce The Choice – Razorr Ramone

Royce The Choice (government name: Royce Thomas) chooses to go by his real name in order to tell his story and to engage his listeners in their choice of listening to him. Born and raised in Seattle, he found himself briefly living and working in Los Angeles in 2010 when he released his first mixtape ‘Choosin’ Season Volume 1.’ He describes ‘Choosin’ Season Volume 1′ as a choice mixture of remixes and covers that allowed him to put his own spin on, as well as original material. With simple attempts to be heard, he did just that more and more. Royce’s music traveled from Hawaii to France to Australia, with DJ’s discovering his mixtape thanks to the Internet. He also caught the attention of the Australian Sensation, one DJ Rush, and has been featured on his new radio show Rush Hour on RawFM with an exclusive titled ‘Radio Snap. Royce the Choice independently shot a video for his cover of Erykah Badu’s ‘Window Seat,’ produced by GMK. The video put a face to the voice, and was received well. Royce also managed to receive the attention of the staff of 50 Cent with the appearance of his in-studio peformance video ‘Stoopid’ on 50’s site Boobootv.com. He was busy in 2011, recording over 100 songs, some of which appeared on the aptly titled ‘Choosin’ Season Volume 2.’ Unlike its predecessor, however, Volume 2 featured all original material. With his eyes to the sky, Royce’s following project is ‘Razor Ramone’ EP, which was produced entirely by GMK, received great reviews throughout the Northwest and nationally.

Calvin Valentine x DJ FlipFlop – SLWDWN94

And it don’t stop, not for Calvin Valentine that is. Just recently dropping a project with TxE Calvin now releases a five song special titled “SLWDWN94” for V-Day. With the last name Valentine go figure but it has been a little while since we have heard him on the raps. He takes a break from producing for the most part with DJ Flip Flop providing the production on every track. This is just another notch in a long belt for DJ Flip Flop as his discography of work with people is long over the years. Calvin’s smooth flow is always easy to vibe too and his beat selection is always grade-A. DJ Flip Flop keeps the soul on every beat with a lot of dope samples which makes the project have its own vibe versus being cliché expectance. Only feature comes from Sam Trump.

Steezie Nasa – Lucky 7

Moor Gang is that click right now and since they are so deep you never have to wait too long for a new release. Steezie Nasa drops his latest project “Lucky 7” with seven brand new tracks with only one feature coming from UDF’s Caz Green. Steezie was one of the initial gunners for the Moor’s which has now grown heavy in support and has many saying they are up next. Steezie always offered a cocky brashness to himself musically which is what a lot of young artists have. Exemplifying a newer Seattle and being able to back it up skillfully. Instead of a crew sounding the same they have a movement with everyone just doing them but being unified at the end of the day.
