Illoquint – Sumn Like A Mixtape More Like A Demo

Over the last few years there has been a change in the music business. Album sales and innovative compilations are on the decline while creativity is increasingly sacrificed for quick profit. Breaking out of the mold is a Seattle-based, award-winning producer/songwriter, who has taken on the moniker “Illoquint”. Illoquint has been making music for over 10 years with a flair for Urban Pop, Hip-Hop, and R&B Soul. He seamlessly transitions between the genres, which is easily credited to his musically-inclined adolescence. Starting as a Hip-Hop artist at 14, he had taught himself to play the piano by 18, and by the age of 19, was awarded in city-wide competitions for his productions. The ear he has today for arranging unique and full harmonies is also heavily influenced by his experience singing in a demanding vocal jazz ensemble during his high school years.

Kush Carter & Mac Shine – Swishermen (In The SEA)

Kush Carter and Mac Shine represent a new wave of Seattle youth trying to take the reins from the artists who laid the groundwork. The two have known years but musically started working together about four years ago. Trial and error, freestyle sessions, and a barrage of past mixtapes the two realized they complement each other well. In an age where paper planes are being praised these two are keeping the memory of the Swisher alive with their debut project “Swishermen (In The Sea Volume 1)” which is just in time for 4/20. Kush Carter reminisces “I feel it is just god given talent and it runs in our family bloodline. My dad was a rapper, my uncles were rappers, and my family is just all out deep rooted in this Seattle rap shit”. It has always been a motto of most rappers to say “Rap Or Die” but these two live on “This Is Our Last Resort” with a back against the wall mentality fighting every step of the way. Even though rapping comes natural so far Kush & Mac know the challenge of success relies on the principal of hard all around work. The project features more up and coming Seattle talent like Swag Kamp. Dee Menace, Sol, with production from DJY, Ray Shinez, SAT, and Steezie Coltrane.

Smiley – Late Night Session

Smiley probably wouldn’t be your typical choice when it comes to rap names but it works for twenty one year old rapper born Edward Perryman. A product of Seattle streets Smiley was raised by his mother whom instilled music in the household early on during his childhood. “Music runs in the family and since I was a kid I had a passion for it. I picked up a pen and wrote my first raps at around age seven” recalls Smiley. Drawing inspiration from a lot of underground music and old school jams Smiley was able to find a niche style of rapping which combines his admiration for past artists plus his love for the current. Smiley states “Being myself is key and though some may compare me to others at least I know I am being me. Doing things this way has brought me a long way and kept me humble at an early age”. Taking things for granted and being complacent is something Smiley has yet to do with eight solo projects already being released and his latest “Late Night Session” being released just in time for spring/summer.
