Chill Will – Cold Chillin Volume 2

Having a standout name as an artist is always a plus and with a name like Chill Will its one of them names you never forget whether you love it or hate it. Well the cold chillin bear is back for his second installment in the “Cold Chillin” series this time hosted by DJ Corey Grand and presented by iLTHY (iLove The Hype) clothing. Contingent on not compromising and keeping the sound that thrived on the first volume Chill Will continues to work closely with Bakers Club who is featured all throughout the project once again. With a limited amount of borrowed instrumentals the projects features mostly original production from Zeke, Raz Fresco, Glass City, AU, DJ Cruel, & DJ Pooh.

Your name Chill Will has kind of an old school ring to it, why the name?

The name was actually given to me. It was my Pop’s nickname in his younger days, and OG Chill (My Grandfather) would call me Will. So it stuck. The “chill” part began to become more relevant and correlate with my music as I got older. I would play people my music, and they would be like “word, you got a chill mood to your music” you know, something’s just seem right to go with.

Why the name Cold Chillin For The Series?
Cold Chillin’, “Chill” Will, you know it’s just one of those things G. I can’t really explain it. When I was putting together Cold Chillin’ 1, I wasn’t planning on making a Sequel. I had wanted to put out a project for the summer that people could play in their Systems and ride around too. Once I had finished the project, and even while making the project. It just hit me like, man this is it. So it was pretty much paying dues when I came up with making Cold Chillin’ 2. I rarely call Cold Chillin’ 2 a “Volume” or second “Version”. It holds more meaning to me than just a second installment. It’s like the deleted scenes that you didn’t get to catch in theaters. Just more “cold” and “chill” shit to pump through your speakers.

Whats Cold Chillin’ 2 about versus part 1? What can people expect since the last project?
Like I just mentioned, Cold Chillin’ 2 is like when you were younger and it was like the last week before Summer Break, and you come to class to find out that the whole week has been canceled, and your Summer Break gets to start a week earlier. People can expect to hear Chill, me, in it. I don’t try to formulate music that doesn’t sound like me, and vise versa, I won’t put out a typical record. You can expect to hear something to finally play in your Car, Truck, Jeep, or whatever. I feel like that element has been missing for a while. Too much music, and not enough specific music. Cold Chillin’ 2 is specifically for the whip. No doubt.

Who did you work with on this project?
This project features the whole Bakers Club, I made sure to get the team on the project. So I got Raz (Raz Fresco), P. Blackk, Brandon Chey, and Lo Thraxx on the tape. As well as other features, and production outside of the Club.

Bakers Club imprint tell us about that? How you get with that what is it all about?
The Bakers Club consists of Raz Fresco, myself, Brandon Chey, P. Blackk, Lo Thraxx, and Brisk. I met Raz and P Blackk shortly before I released Cold Chillin. We all actually had worked on a joint together for Cold Chillin. You know, ill recognizes ill. Raz was putting together the Club and asked all of us if we were trying to be apart of it, and the rest just fell in to place. Crazy stuff G, crazy stuff. Bakers Club is a Club full of individuals that are trying to get paid without compromising what we stand for as individuals. We just so happen to make it look dope as hell while we do it. You can check more of the Club out at www.bakersclub.wordpress.com

Describe your style? How would you compare yourself to other northwest artists?
My style is just style itself. I’m a huge fan of creativity, and pretty much anything innovative. I’m not afraid to say, “oh that’s dope” or “nah, I don’t mess with that”, and I feel that allows me to form my style based upon what I know I don’t want to be miscomprehended with my style.

Explain the concept art of the cover? Bulls Hat? Sonics Jersey?
The cover art is done by the homies from the Cleveland Based Clothing Brand “iLove The Hype”. On the cover we got the Cold Chillin’ Bear. He was on the cover of Cold Chillin’, so I felt it was right to bring the homie back for Cold Chillin’ 2. The Bulls hat comes free me being a big fan of the whole Bulls Era and MJ, except for the ’96 Finals of course, and the Sonics Jersey comes from the obvious. Huge fan of the Sonics.

On that note what are your thoughts about the whole Sonics leaving Seattle since you are a big fan?
No comment, Haha Nah, but you know G, it’s crazy. It’s like some people don’t even remember that the team was there. I was a big fan of Kemp, GP, Detlef, basically the whole 96 Roster. I was a fan when we had Pat Ewing even though he pretty much was through his prime, but it was like “man we got Patrick Ewing”. But you know, no love lost, just won’t root for the Thunder. They could’ve at least kept the same jerseys.

Whats your favorite song from the project and why?
It’s hard to pick favorites, with me being the artist of the tape. It’s like asking an author what’s their favorite statement from a certain article, or an artist what’s their favorite aspect from an illustration. I wouldn’t put something out, that I feel would be unleveled. I purposely made the tape so that I wouldn’t be able to pick favorites.

Whats upcoming and what are your goals as far as being an artist in this industry?
Upcoming is some dope stuff from the Bakers Club. I got something in the works with the homie Raz Fresco, I’m working on getting some visuals put together for Cold Chillin’ 2, and promoting Cold Chillin’ 2 as well. In the meantime, you can catch me on Twitter @ImNotChillWill and be on the look out for some Visuals off of Cold Chillin’ 2.
