Western Washington has always had a lot richer history when it comes to music than the Eastern side of Washington but everyone has their pioneers. Pasco one of the three cities that that make up the tri-cities region was home to a growing record label in the mid nineties named Acropolis Records. Everyone has to get their start somewhere and that was the vision that Kyle “Pork” Adams had when he started the label. The first release from the label dropped in 1995 being a compilation entitled “Side N On You” featured Pork, Shaolin, Da Pho, Mo Mil (Skratchounds), and Insidious Ree. The release was an instant hit in and became one of the first releases to be sold locally from the region from a local artist.
A group also featured on the compilation was Owens N Beech Street who just happened to be the second release on the label when they released their album “Potential To Be Your Killa” in 1996. The group consisting of J-Hogg and VP Real helped solidify the labels name with what many now think of as an unheard classic. As with the debut release from the label it did well locally and allowed the label to spur two more releases consecutive years after with a second Pork release in 1997 entitled “Under The Influence” and Shaolin’s “Baby Dragons & King Cobras” in 1998. Though the label did not release any other CD’s after this time period the legacy of these four releases still lives on today and they are still highly sought after. Pork and Shaolin would make appearances on Skratchounds’s 3001 album which was a group that Mo Mil was a part of who got his start by appearing on Pork’s debut compilation.
The joy of music is it is timeless and it can live on forever even after someone passes. In 2010 Kyle “Pork” Adams passed away after battling Congestive Heart Failure. Though he had not released much music since his days with Acropolis Records he was known to be a huge part in the community not just musically but seen by many as a mentor to the youth. Active in the community and even having time to throw a yearly event called Pork-A-Paoolza which featured various genres of music all on one stage. Though some will only remember Pork through his contributions to music he will be missed by many for what he has done outside of this business.
