F.T.S. (Full Time Soldiers) – Money Motivated

Street Level Records, founded in 1996 by CEO and in-house producer David Severance III (aka Mr. D-Sane), got its start with the formation of the label’s first signature group, “F.T.S.” (Full Time Soldiers). The group started out with 3 artists Smoke Dog, J-Dub, D-Sane and their early recordings on a 4-track recording studio sprawled into what would later become known as “4 Track Sessions” As bootleg copies of their material started to circulate, people became hooked on this new Seattle sound that featured spitfire lyrics and hard-hitting production.  After receiving large amounts of positive feedback from fans hungry for more, the label and artists decided it was time to put out a real album.

Street Level went to work on their first project in 1998 with F.T.S. self-titled debut, “Full Time Soldiers.” The group now expanded to six gained an incredible buzz in the Puget Sound area and went on to sell over 1,000 copies. For a fledgling indie label, it was a major accomplishment. This was confirmed when SLR received their first national media attention by being named in the nationally distributed Rap Sheet Magazine 1998 Regional Round–Up as one of the few Seattle groups to “shake things up.” Following the huge success throughout the Seattle-Tacoma-Everett area of their first album, F.T.S. expanded the group roster to nine (C K Red, Madd Dogg, Drama, Byrdie, D-Sane, J-Dub, Smoke, Brokedown, Brazy J) and immediately went to work on follow-up album entitled “Money Motivated,” which was released in March of 2000. Demand for the album was so great, Sam Goody stores were taking reservations for the album several months prior to it’s release, a first for any Seattle based Hip-Hop record label. The release solidified Street Level Records as a serious record label with top quality production and unadulterated talent

The hit single “Player’s Policy” received heavy rotation on KUBE 93’s “Future Flavors” show. Phone lines lit up and requests poured in as F.T.S. started their invasion into the world of mainstream music. The massive amounts of radio feedback garnered F.T.S. a spot at the 2000 KUBE 93 Pre-Summer Jam Party where they literally stole the show and left a club full of people screaming for more. “Money Motivated” has gone on to sell close to 2,200 copies and remains the best selling local album available in stores to date. F.T.S. went on to dominate cyberspace by taking over MP3.com and securing it’s position at the top of the West Coast charts for 2 years, beating out artists such as Snoop Dogg. The crew eventually disbanded in 2001 due to internal conflicts between various members of the group. The classic music that was created lives on many years after it’s release and is among some of the most sought after underground Seattle Hip-Hop ever created! Though F.T.S. is no longer it was able to spawn solo careers of Byrdie (NFlight Entertainment), Smoke Dog (Red Door Records) and Greedy BD aka Byron Douglas (Gettin’ Greedy Records) who have all released several projects since their departure from Street Level Records.

  1. a bra ya’ll still true 206 illness to me. time for ya’ll to make a comeback and show the 206 and 425 how it’s really done.

  2. FTS is one of my musical inspirations. My opinion is that FTS is a top 2 rap group of all time, in the same light as Jedi Mind Tricks. Full Time Soldiers music is intellectual gangsterism with a heavy dose of tasteful vibes (and often impeccable beats). I am a dark synth producer and was heavily inspired by your albums around the year 2000, the dark synth elements of it were exceptional. Thank you for existing.
