Mannish Da Jula – Da Pure

In 2002 it seemed like only a long jail bid was the future for Mannish Da Jula as he was awaiting trial for a drug charge stemming from an early morning traffic stop, due to being young, black, and driving in an expensive car on the Westside of Anchorage. But thankfully a good lawyer, laying low, and staying out of trouble the charges were eventually dropped due to harassment and lying on the charging documents from the main officer.

Since then Mannish has taken his music career more serious than ever buying his own studio, starting a label, and recording a slew of local talented acts in his city including his then known group Wolfpack who put out 5 mixtapes from 2003-05 which have sold pretty well in such a small hip hop scene such as Anchorage, Alaska and then 2006 a solo double disc mixtape by Mannish and company called “What U Ain’t Heard Volume 1”. But a few shows around the city and cd’s still no major recognition? Mannish had to think quick about how to keep his name circulating in the game, so in 2006 his cousin King Leo made him a Myspace page and there he found he can network with people from all over and sell music to his fans but things fell apart once again for Da Jula. While watching television one evening in the summer with his cousin and manager Soapy, there was an off rhythm knock at the door and badges from ATF agents looking for a man who Mannish says he never met ever.

Being police the officers suspected Mannish was lying and sought to interrogate the young men anyway for guns and drugs because of his name being in the judicial system but this was all too strange, whoever was giving these cops bad information because these officers had no warrant and they didn’t find what they were looking for. By this time young Mannish just thought to take his show on the road but the difference this time was he didn’t want to make music anymore, “I moved to Las Vegas with a little chick who wanted to pursue acting and modeling, and I hustled through the casinos playing poker and blackjack to pay bills and eat at night”. “See when I was taking trips to L.A. and Philly I was meeting all kinds of young dudes whose lives weren’t any different from mine but a lot of those dudes never got a chance to venture out and see where life could’ve took them cause they either dead or in jail”.

A year and a half passed and Mannish flew back to Alaska in 2008 with his dreams turning into reality one step at a time, only this time there was nobody in his camp and in 2009 his closest friend and manager Soapy was arrested on murder charges, which he’s still being held till trial. With an army of producers, contacts, new music locked and stocked in his external hard drive, magazine placements, videos and more mixtapes Mannish Da Jula has labels, artist, and publicists demanding him now because of his strong work ethic and it’s only getting better. “Trust me you going to see why I can’t leave the game alone, I was born into this I’m hip hops child my music is like reading a book, but a good book that you will always remember and want to dissect and read all over again, it’s Da Jula Free my brotha Soapy and shout out to all the real hustlas, I ride for yall niggas till the world burn out.”
