Skuntdunanna – Lead By Example

In 1992 the murder rate in Seattle was at an all time high and gang banging was at its prime. There was a young man running the streets and highly caught up in the game. Skuntdunanna aka Mafia soon found that he had a talent that was brought to light by musical artist such as Run DMC, Ice Cube, LL Cool J and E40.

In 1995 he decided it was time for him to bring his talent to the next level. He started recording songs at “Let’s Do It Studios” in the Central District of Seattle. In early 1996 he was scouted by an “up and coming” record label called Sea Sick Records. After a couple of months of negotiations he was signed by the record label and in late 1996 the contracts were signed and Skuntdunanna recorded over 40 songs over a 5-year period.

After 5 long years the label finally decided to release his first album “Trapped In The Hatrixx”. Even though it was a long tenure of recording music with minimal results Skuntdunanna learned a lot from the label as an artist. He performed in Canada, Las Vegas, California, Idaho, Montana, and New York and opened for platinum artist such as Snoop Dogg, The Eastsiderz, Ludacris, Destiny’s Child, Jesse Powell, Ja Rule, 2 Live Crew, Tech N9ne, Yukmouth, RBL Posse, and many others.

After the release and subsequent success of his first and only album with this Sea Sick Records Skuntdunanna decided it was time to grow as an artist and he left the label who gave him his start. He decided to use his knowledge of the music business and start his own record label Skunt Muzik. This would be a label where he could feel comfortable and where he could use his knowledge to succeed. At the same time as Skuntdunanna was creating Skunt Muzik he got back in touch with an old friend in the music business.

This long time friend happened to be David “D-Sane” Severance CEO of Street Level Records. Street Level records had already started making a name for themselves with successful group projects from F.T.S. (Full Time Soldiers) & I.K. (Independent Kash). In 2003 the two labels Skunt Muzik & Street Level records released their debut collaborative effort with the album “The Streetz Iz Enough”. In 2003 the hit single “It Ain’t Hard to See” came in#3 in a local end of the year countdown on Seattle’s #1 Hip Hop Station Kube 93.

A Seattle super group would be formed a year later with the likes of Skuntdunanna, his twin brother Twin-G, A-Train, and 151. For what NWA did for California the new group “Lac Of Respect” would do for the rainy city of Seattle. The name of the group was self explanatory, Seattle has always been a city highly slept on when it comes to its rap scene. In 2004 the Game Members album hit the streets and people began to recognize what the Northwest had to offer.

Skuntdunanna continued to show his relentless work ethic over the next few years releasing three mixtapes. Feel Me Or Kill Me in 2006, Live From The Hater Capital Of The World in 2007, and Never Let Em See You Stress in 2009. After a 6 year hiatus Skunt Aka Mafia is back with his third official solo album “Lead By Example”. The album in conjunction with Street Level Records features production from D-Sane, Young Suspect, Che Blaq, Kajmir Royale, Roc phella, Mafia, Young Star, & Nyce. Doing what Skunt does best the albums features are minimal with guest spots from Che Blaq, Wanz, & Nemma Of Unexpected Arrival.

Skunt has produced beats and appeared on over 30 different albums and has fans all over the world. Skuntdunanna has only started to show the world his talent and abilities. 2009 is his year to shine and to show the world what he can do. With hundreds of songs and beats in his arsenal he is primed to make his impact in the music industry.
